Aging Services at the Crossroads
“The Senior Service industry needs to modernize not for the sake of acting fancy but to earn an equal seat at the health industry table.”
Last week REUNIONCare attended the Florida Council on Aging’s (FCOA) annual Conference. The theme of the conference was “Power of the Past, Force of the Future.” Now, that is the kind of messaging that inspires revolutionaries like us.
Clayton Christensen’s vision is the catalyst for us at REUNIONCare. He believes that all of our information age has the potential to solve our most pressing social issues. In other words, that iPhone is not just for Pokemon Go or Facebook, it is a force that can transform aging services into a 21st Century industry. So, let’s Disrupt Aging services!
Less than a handful of senior industry technology companies attended the FCOA conference. One of the new technology sponsors, Care Angels, presented at a well-attended general session and offered their technology FREE to the attendees. I wish I could report that the crowd rose to their feet with thunderous applause over this generous offer, but no. Total silence.
My purpose here is not to disparage the FCOA conference attendees and decision makers. My goal is to challenge them. The days of paper records and phone calls are over. This is the 21st Century. Every dollar invested in new technology can return tenfold for service delivery. The Senior Service industry needs to modernize not for the sake of acting fancy but to earn an equal seat at the health industry table.
